Lima, April 15, 2024.- In line with Yape’s commitment to drive financial education in Peru, the super app, alongside the team that manages the education portfolio within Institutional Banking at BCP, joined forces with the University of Lima to provide financial education to thousands of university students studying for a degree in Administration.
According to the third National Survey of Financial Skills, conducted by the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP of Peru (SBS) and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), the financial knowledge indicator fell one percentage point 2022, situating at 36% versus 37% in 2019. As such, it is important to continue driving financial education in the country, particularly among young people who have begun to take their first steps in the formal financial system.
The Alliance will allow students from the University of Lima to take courses on how to organize spending; how credit cards and mortgages work; how to develop their credit history; how to strengthen their entrepreneurial efforts with tools that Yape offers for free; among other points.
Yape’s courses coincide with the final cycles in the study plan for the School of Administration and offer an integral proposition for financial education. A specialist from Yape will make a presentation to students, who will also be invited to visit Yape’s installations.
“At Yape, we are committed to financial inclusion. We want more Peruvians to have access to high-quality, simple financial products, which must be used responsibly. People who access the financial system must clearly understand the products and services that are available to take full advantage of benefits. Alliances such as these are particularly important to financially educate more young people,” commented Marcelo Alzamora, Leader of Financial Inclusion at Yape.
Yape plans to offer financial education courses to more universities in the country over the next few months. The objective is to provide more young people with high-quality financial education content that is applicable in their day-day routines. To date, more than 600 thousand Peruvians have received the free on-line and on-site courses that Yape offers.
